Growing consumer awareness, does the technology industry need a green alternative?

The technology industry is one of the fastest growing in the world and every day we witness the introduction of new products, solutions and conveniences. However, growing consumer awareness means that more and more consumers want to have the choice and option to purchase more environmentally friendly products. Is the technology industry, ready for the growing importance of ecology? Do GSM products fit in with the latest trends in environmental protection?

Is there really a need to be eco?

The topic of ecology is ever-present and alive, in the face of the climate crisis, it is gaining in importance and reaching the whole of society. Thus, the environmental awareness of Poles is gradually increasing over time, according to a study conducted by Open Research in 2022. Only one in ten Poles (9%) is indifferent and passive when it comes to ecology, while one in five Poles (19%) represents an exemplary attitude towards caring for the environment and thinking globally about ecology. Consumers are increasingly making conscious decisions, deciding more and more often to buy environmentally friendly products, for example as many as 50% of Poles pay attention to whether packaging can be recycled.
The situation is similar globally, with up to 81% of consumers expecting companies to be environmentally conscious in their advertising, communications and products, according to the 2019 Global Consumer Insights survey. The situation is similar when it comes to packaging, with 37% of the public paying attention to whether product packaging is environmentally friendly and 41% avoiding plastic whenever they can. The growing awareness and knowledge of ecology is also reflected in the multitude of trends and tendencies within ecology.

Environmental protection is not just about ecology

There are many different trends that are directly related to ecology. We often do not even realise how often we interact with them. More and more people are consciously choosing to follow a particular trend, which also influences their consumer behaviour. The main trends are: minimalism, zero waste, slow life or closed-loop economies. Each trend focuses on different issues, but there is one thing they have in common, namely concern for the environment.
Minimalism promotes moderation and the pursuit of simplicity in our lives, taking care of what we really need, thereby relieving the burden on our planet. Similar values are represented by the slow life trend, which focuses on slowing down and focusing on the quality of life instead of quantity, and values work-life balance. Zero waste involves reducing the amount of waste we produce. An extension of this can be the assumption of a closed-loop economy, in which raw materials are continually used and not treated as waste. All the trends add up, and increasingly conscious consumers are now looking for products that are not only functional, but also environmentally friendly and responsible.

Bioio, the green alternative

To meet the needs of increasingly conscious consumers, the technology industry is launching products that are environmentally friendly. An example of a brand that believes that modern technology can go hand in hand with care for the environment is Bioio. In the development of its products, the decision was made to reduce or completely eliminate plastic, which is harmful to the planet. Wherever possible, plastics have been replaced by ingredients of natural origin. This makes the products more environmentally friendly while maintaining their durability and high quality, thus extending the product life cycle. Wheat bran has been used for the charger covers and USB cables. In the case of the chargers, they make up 20% of the casing, while in the cable cover they make up as much as 30%. The composition of the caps, on the other hand, is all-natural. The main ingredient in the caps is PBAT, a modern material derived from natural raw materials, which is able to fully decompose in home compost. To meet the needs of users, the brand has completely eliminated plastic from its packaging, and its small size helps to reduce the carbon footprint during transportation. What’s more, each pack is fully biodegradable, as are the smartphone caps, which won’t litter the planet further when used, instead biodegrading.

The strengths of Bioio products are their versatility and usefulness; thanks to their modern design, they adapt to users’ needs and can accompany them every day. Not only do the products have an interesting speckled pattern thanks to the use of oat bran, but they also provide a positive sensory experience thanks to their pleasant to touch surface. The inspiration for their creation came from nature, which is particularly evident in the minimalist and universal colour scheme taken directly from the surrounding nature. The technology industry is not at all as far from nature as it may seem. Even small changes count, and consumers increasingly want alternatives and choices when they make a purchase. It is worth giving them that opportunity.
